Just too much for one man

This place is working me to death. Really!! From daylight til after dark each and every day, it never ends. hahaha!! You all know that I love every minute of it too. From the goats to the chickens to the ducks and the garden, I love it all. I am a little overwhelmed at times with all that needs to be done but I just do what I can and pray there will be a tomorrow. Like so many of you I never seem to have enough time to get it all done no matter how well I plan.

Spent the better part of the morning cutting firewood. Me and my friend are cutting and piling it up in a big pile at his farm. This fall we will take the wood splitter down to the field and spit it all. This way when we haul it home it is seasoned and split and ready to stack and burn this winter. Hard work but he and I both love it. Good hard honest work that pays true benefits, warmth for our families during the winter to come. He's a good friend and we share so many of the same beliefs about the way life should be. I value our time together.

Back home to more work. We bought a Wagner Paint Sprayer from Lowes the other day and it has been a blessing. I wasn't really sold on the idea of getting it but glad that we did. I have always been a roller and brush kinda guy, old habits are hard for me to break. But I love it. We painted our 12X24 out building with it and then painted 6 doors from inside the house. Just take them off the hinge and take them outside and spray away. Does a great job. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Tomorrow will be spent in the garden, again. I need to run the tiller for a few hours and weed some more. Also still have seeds that need to get planted. If time would only stand still for a day I MAY be able to get caught up on my work. It's 10:30 and I am just now getting settled down from the days work. Ate about 9:00 and then hit the shower to try to get some of the daily grime off of me. LOL I think I got most of it. If not it will blend in tomorrow and no one will know any different. lol

For those of you that enjoyed my last post about Little House on the Prairie and left such nice comments, I thank you. I have also found a Amazon link to the first season dvd collection for those that may be interested in getting a copy of your own.

Hang in there scavenger, I feel like that all the time. I just tackle stuff by importance and let the others get done when they get done. Tons of half finished projects here! A little at a time....

Cudos on the pile of firewood, I still haven't cleaned up the storm damage from our hurricane!

Sounds like lots of progress and accomplishments... a good feeling. It's nice that the pace isn't always so intense though, isn't it? :)

I do know you how you feel! I usually finish for the night after 9. Then I have a few hours of paying work to do. It is overwhelming sometimes, but overall I love it.

Wow--sounds like you are getting a lot done! I'm just wondering how much wood you use over the winter--I remember that huge, huge amount that you wrote about last year. As usual, great planning!

the hard work is so fulfilling when it is for your homestead rather than working for the "the man" keep up the good work!

Sorry to be so long responding to comments, busy, busy, busy.

Matt, thanks buddy, it does pay off in the end.

MM, trying to take things easy for a bit. It will all get done just not as fast as I like. Thanks for the comment, firewood is piled high over there now.

Ron, I have made some progress but still so much to do. Or that I want to get done anyway. lol It is nice to know that it CAN wait until tomorrow tho. Thanks for coming over my friend, good to have you.

Christy, it's a labor of love you could say. I can't think of any other way I would want it to be. Thank you so much.

Peggy, I think tired must be a way of life for a homesteader/farmer, stinky too...lol Thanks for the comment and please come back.

Marie, working like a dog as always. I did burn a lot more of that wood than I thought I would. Still had a few truck loads left tho. I'm gonna have a mountian this year of wood. Good to hear from you and thank you.

Joanna, AMEN !!! I have never worked this hard for anyone else for any amount of money. Hope I never have to either. lol Thanks a bunch.

Good to hear from you, Scavenger! I agree that there is always more to do than what you have time for! Oh, well...you won't get bored, that's for sure! :-) Congrats on the firewood and the chopping buddy! Great bonding time, eh? :-)

i love this post! good hard work is so fulfilling - and is especially fun with a good friend by your side!
thanks for the link to The Little House series - gonna have to order that up for sure!

as for getting the day's dirt and grime off of you - my fingernails have been black for about 3 weeks now - i keep them short at this time of year and scrub them a thousand times a day - but cannot get all of the dirt stains off! and because i like to garden barefoot - the bottoms of my feet are black-black-black - cannot keep them clean either - bahahaha!

We never seem to get caught up either, the work is always there and the list seems to just grow and grow. But I would not have any other life....ever!

Scavenger, don't you sleep a whole lot better after a day like that. If everyone worked like that we wouldn't have to sit through all the Jenny Craig and Nutri-System adds cluttering up the air waves.

When I was a kid we had a wood furnace and our whole family worked hard on getting wood cut and split year after year after year. I loved it and it is some of my favorite memories with my family. I even had friends come and help because their families didn't do such projects together and they wanted in on it.
