I'm doing a little better

After a long day full of headaches and nervous jitters I am going to bed now. I wish I could have done better with my Declarations on quiting smoking and Diet Coke but I have made much progress in my ultimate success. Total count for January 1- smoked 4 cigarettes and drank 6 diet cokes. Not good by any ones standards but tomorrow I will continue the fight. I have added a side bar to let others keep track of my success and failures. I vow to continue to battle these addictions until they are defeated no matter what. I have given my word to you and to myself and I WILL keep my word. It's a matter of honor to me now. I'll keep you updated.
On a lighter note, the new goat kids are doing great. I kept them and their mother in the barn last night and I let them out today to enjoy a little sunshine. They ran and jumped and had a ball. We held them and made sure they knew that we were no threat to them and that we provide nothing but love and kindness. It was a good day here on the farm for all.

Stopping smoking is by far one of the toughest addictions to break. I hope the best for you. Always remember that that crappie feeling will pass.

You did great today! Quitting both cigarettes and pop is difficult and I would imagine just about impossible to just do it cold turkey in one day. I think cutting back the way you are and taking one day at a time will give you a better chance at success. What a reduction! Maybe you should keep track of the money you save each day to help motivate you that way. Good job, keep it up!

I think that is GREAT progress, your body will fight you, so you just have to be strong no matter how bad it feels. CONGRATULATIONS!!

Glad to hear the little goats are doing well. Sounds like they are a lot of fun!
I don't know about anyone else, but it sounds to me like you have made phenomenal progress on your declarations. Just remember that we're all rooting for you!

I'm with ya in spirit, bro. Giving up those mokes would be my hardest, but I did cut down a lot when I started rolling my own. I guess the reason is because it takes so much more time to do the rolling, you are more aware of how many you smoke!

Good luck to ya!

Good for you, it's tough to give up something that you enjoy. I suggest that you drink lots of water, add a touch of lemon or lime if you don't like plain water. You will be detoxing and you need to help the process along.

I never smoked (except for that one week when I was a teen), so I can't imagine how hard it must be to quit that, but I used to drink Dr Pepper, not quite as many as you did, but on average I'd say I drank 3-5 a day.

It was hard to stop, but now, some 3 years later, I so rarely drink a carbonated soda, and when I do it is actually unpleasant! The taste and bubbly sensation is so strong, it assaults my mouth.

Keep up the good work, it is worth it. :)

Keep it up! I am struggling with Cokes right now (I am resolved to get off them too!) but I cannot imagine quitting smoking too. It is absolutely a great thing and worth the pain it will cause now. I have a headache that is kicking my butt so I can't imagine what you have going. Anyhow, keep it up. It will be worth it when you look back on it!

Hey, I think you're doing great! From 20 cans of pop to 6 cans! Whoa! And from 1.5 packs to only 4 cigarettes! That's super!!!! Don't be down on yourself! You're more than 1/2 way there! Great job! Gen

Wow, thank you all so much for your support. You have each motivated me in ways you will never know. Thank you for being there for me, you are all the best support system a guy could ask for. I'm still fighting as hard as I can. I have stumbled some but I keep getting right back on the wagon. Thanks again for you very encouraging comments.

I think you have done very well too! Good luck and just keep trying. Physical addictions are very hard. You might look into herbal supplements for some relief. I have never tried such but have heard that kudzu of all things, helps some with the nicotine withdrawals.

Mi Hermano, I quit smoking for 2 years on my own, then one cigarette tempted me back into the habit. I tried again a few years later, to no avail. Then I asked the Lord to help me, if it be His will. I quit cold turkey that week. That has been over 10 years ago, and I haven't smoked since.

Tracy, good for you man. It's a hard thing to do as we all know. I may have to call on a higher power before it's all over. Been tough.
